                                                                                                              KLEE/BANG FAMILY HISTORY

The Klee family has known roots going back to the 1400s in the German settlement in Riga, Latvia and in Denmark to the 1600s, via the Fabritius line. The Danish line of the Klee family was founded by Heinrich von Klee, who came to Denmark from Riga, Latvia and married Elisabeth Fabritius, who was from an old Danish family. The portrait below is of her paternal grandparents.                         ----    See genealogy Table IA -- Fabritius

This Web page is under construction. Over time it will be refined and the content will vary, since there is more material than can be shown at one time. Please excuse the crude form and please let me know of any typos or other errors you see. Creating a Website is new to me. I am practicing and learning as I go along. If you you want copies of  the full text of College Verses, (See below), please download it, since I will probably remove it to make room for other documents. You can reach me with suggestions or comments at gdklee@comcast.net

This Website was created by Gerald D'Arcy Klee, who is one of many grandchildren of Waldemar* G. Klee and Jane (Jenny) Barry Klee, who were the founders of the American branch of the Klee family. Waldemar and Jenny died young and left three children, who were sent from California to Denmark, where they were lovingly raised by Danish relatives. The relatives were: Elise Klee Bang and her husband Dr. Bernhardt Lauritz Bang; Dr. Frederik Emil Klee and his wife Gudrun.  Frederik and Elise were Waldemar's older brother and sister. The descendants of Waldemar and Jenny will be forever grateful to the Danish family members who cared for the three American orphans, who eventually founded families of their own. See below for photo of Carolyn, Bertel, Left front and     Frederick, taken circa 1900 in Denmark

*Waldemar is usually spelled Valdemar in Denmark and it is spelled Valdemar in the genealogy tables that were prepared in Denmark. I am spelling it Waldemar because that is the spelling in the report of his Christening and on his gravestone. It is also the way he spelled his name during the whole time he lived in the US.

Much of the information in my possession was contributed by relatives in Denmark. Noteworthy among them are  Mogens Klee, who spent years assembling genealogical information on the family, which he obtained from his brother Poul (Paul); Henning Klee; Joergen Bang Senior (recently deceased) and his son Joergen Bang;  Marianne Carol Klee, Jill Klee, Ida Klee; Frans Jacobsen, and other family sources in Denmark. Several decades ago, while my son Brian Klee was visiting Joergen Bang Sr. in Denmark, Joergen gave him copies of many family documents that we did not possess. The letters to and from Denmark (see below) were among them. Brian asked me to express our appreciation for the enormous generosity of Mogens, Joergen and other Danish relatives whom he visited.
